The Annie E. Casey Foundation
www.aecf.org
Since 1948, the Annie E. Casey Foundation (AECF) has worked to build better futures for disadvantaged children and their families in the United States. The primary mission of the Foundation is to foster public policies, human service reforms, and community supports that more effectively meet the needs of today's vulnerable children and families. In 1999, Indianapolis was chosen to take part in the Making Connections initiative, a ten-year investment by AECF to improve the outcomes for families and children in low income neighborhoods. The Casey Foundation’s research has shown that children do better when their families are strong, and families do better when they live in communities that help them to succeed.

The City of Indianapolis, Mayor Bart Peterson
www.indygov.org
Children who are prepared to enter school are more likely to succeed in school, and eventually at work and in the community. Mayor Peterson and the City of Indianapolis promote community initiatives to advance the health and cognitive development of young children, work with the many stakeholders committed to early childhood success, and support initiatives that help families, to ensure that all children enter school ready to learn. In addition, Mayor Peterson has worked with local educators and state legislators to expand educational options for children in public schools, including full-day kindergarten.

United Way of Central Indiana
www.uwci.org

United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI) is focused on bringing people together to change long-term conditions that improve lives and communities. Successful Kids is one of four priority areas where UWCI supports programs and partnerships. This support includes fundraising and encouraging volunteer involvement to benefit children.

In addition to fundraising and encouraging volunteer involvement to benefit children, United Way is recognized for leading and managing two effective youth-focused collaborations - Bridges to Success and Youth as Resources. Bridges helps kids succeed by creating enduring partnerships between families, schools and communities. Youth as Resources challenges central Indiana youth to identify community needs and problems and then provides them with resources to address those problems.
